Here the beaches could be cleaned, get a bit wider sand in parts and are a lovely picturesque stretch. As you walk the 2 km south you pass by all the All Inclusive 4 and 5* hotels. No sunbeds just bring your own towels, rush mats or chairs as the locals do. A nice stretch of white sand and azure blue sea. Plenty of car parking and small snack stalls for food and soft drinks. The northern half a public beach with 25 metre deep woods between it and the coast road. The beach can be separated into two areas.

For hiking, the visible sandy patch was pretty soft and I walked on my bare feet with a bit of attention to avoid any broken corals or tree branches. So, it is safer to wear swimming shoes for playing in the sea. Besides, there are a lot of broken corals on the beach (this is the same to every beach we’ve been to in Mauritius including the famous Ile aux Cerf). However, it does not mean that no urchins can move in!! When I swim for snorkeling, I saw a few urchins even inside the swimming zone in front of the hotels.

The swimming zone (marked in yellow) was mostly free of urchins. High tide is important as otherwise it can be really shallow. Morning high tide is advisable because fishes are more active and it tends to be sunnier in the morning. There is also a warning for stone fish but that I did not find.įor swimming and snorkeling, the water can be on the shallow side. Most corals there are brain corals.īe ware of urchins and lion fishes. In Flic en flac, I saw a moray eel, box fishes, butterfly fishes, flute fish, lion fishes, trigger fishes, small giant clams, brain coral a few smaller starborn corals and soft corals. The snorkeling is not spectacular any where. We snorkeled here, turtle bay, Mont Choisy and Ile aux Cerf.

Snorkeling spots are far in the water marked by red buoy (at least the ones in front of Hilton). It also presents with stunning sunsets on sunny days. When I arrived at Hilton Mauritius I was so impressed by the long stretch of the beach with the beautiful light blue water colour. However it is one of the best beaches in Mauritius.įlic en Flac on a sunny day is just so stunningly beautiful. I deducted a star as I compare it against other beaches in the world like the ones in Maldives, Mediterranean, Caribbean and in Pacific islands.
